Hi, I’m Amara, But Most Just call me Mars!!

I’m a musical theater actor currently performing in the North American tour of Moulin Rouge! The Musical, and a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina - Greensboro with a BFA in Musical Theater and a minor in Media Studies. I’m so glad you’re here!

So here’s the gist…

I have been a performer for as long as I can remember, but not always on the stage. I grew up an only child in the Midwest, which meant I was in constant search of a way to entertain myself. This led me to my first love: Figure Skating (…much to my Trinidadian mother’s surprise). I spent over a decade pursuing it competitively, and to this day credit my work ethic and grit to my years on the ice. However, as I got older, I still couldn’t sit still, so I tried my hand at many other things in addition to skating: volleyball, track, student council, cake decorating classes… you name it, I’ve probably tried it.

But then I found myself on stage for the first time at 12 years old and everything changed.

Since my big break (aka my one line in St. Ursula Academy’s production of Hairspray), I have pursued a life in the theater and have never turned back! I was fortunate enough to begin my professional career at wonderful theaters such as the New London Barn Playhouse, Wagon Wheel Professional Theater, and Ogunquit Playhouse. In early 2025, I joined the Moulin Rouge! North American tour playing Arabia (one of the four fierce Lady Marmalades) and understudying Satine (making me the youngest Satine at only 23!) and I am having a blast living out my dream come true with this beautiful broadway spectacle!

Outside of theater, you can catch me taking photos of beautiful people/moments, writing songs, or dusting off the old skates (see special skills for a glimpse into all of these things). I can also be found hosting girls’ nights for friends, calling my mom, watching the latest season of The Bachelor(ette) or listening to Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version… obviously).
